ECO-NAIJA PHOTO CONTEST WINNERS!

by | 18-08-2014 13:51 recommendations 0

The opportunity to express interest in Nigeria's natural environment and excitement in showcasing the beauty of the  country's vast and unique flora and fauna through pictures basically informed my decision to organize for the very first time in the history of the country, an eco-photo contest mainly for young Nigerians.

Quite amazing, the turn out was totally overwhelming as the contest assumed a full blown national competition with fantastic entries from every part of the country, more than I actually envisaged.

Without further ado, I have the honor and privilege to present to the world, the winners of  the first Eco-Nigeria photo contest who also have now been crowned as the Faces of the GO GREEN NIGERIA Campaign

Their entries beat over 320 others to claim the position as the first winners of the  eco-photo contest in Nigeria:

1. HILDA OBASANYA.
HILDA OBASANYA
Hilda is a young Nigerian lady who is immensely passionate about the country's natural environment.

According to her, she is quite impressed with the creation of  parks in almost every local government area in Lagos State, Nigeria, as a means of going green and beautifying the environment.

Asked what she would do if given support by international environmental organisations or individuals, Hilda replied, "I will encourage the planting of more trees, as it helps in climate control and improves the ecosystem.
I will also encourage the recycling of used products and educate people about its benefits."

Winning this contest makes her feel good and proud about herself and she has learned to keep her immediate environment clean and safe for living.

Hilda's advice  to young Nigerians is to keep their immediate environment clean as much as possible. They should understand the fact that a healthy environment will bring about healthy people and  activities like littering, deforestation and obstructing drainage ways should be discouraged while activities like afforestation and Recycling should be encouraged.

2.BABATUNDE ORIBAMISE
BABATUNDE ORIBAMISE
Babatunde's love for animals is exceptional and quite inspiring. Little wonder his picture of a beautiful ostrich won the heart of the panel of judges.

He loves the scenery of Nigeria because it inspires him to feel the wonders of nature. When asked what he would do should he enjoy support from environmental organisations and individuals, Babatunde replied, "I wish to make a good landscaping of the country. I wish to preserve the environment."

On his emergence as one of the winners, he informed me that he feels elated and quite grateful for the opportunity to express the beauty of nature in a picture. Finally, he advised young Nigerians to make the environment safe and hygienic for everyone.

3.ERUAGA MICHAEL DAMILOLA
ERUAGA MICHAEL DAMILOLA
Michael is one amazing young man whose love for nature cannot be fully described in one report page. In fact, he is currently studying an environment related course in a University here in Nigeria.

Passionate Michael loves Nigeria's natural environment because of the diverse climates, landscapes and wildlife.

His intention if supported by environmental organisations or passionate environmentalists is to create awareness on environmental issues and their effects on the ecosystem and also proffer possible solutions as regards environmental problems in Nigeria.

Excited Michael admitted that winning the contest has reawakened his environmental conciousness and intensified his passion for environmental issues. More importantly, it has repositioned him to become actively involved in protecting his immediate environment through activism.

Finally, Michael wants  young Nigerians like him  to be eco-friendly and passionate about the environment, because the safety of our environment is our safety.

What an amazing set of eco-passionate young Nigerians! Hilda, Babatunde and Michael represent the new voice of young people not just in Nigeria but the whole world at large, urging the world to appreciate and protect nature.

I believe they truly deserve winning the photo contest and here's to congratulate them once again. I hope they will be supported by any environmental organisation or individual environmentalist reading this, so as to help them with their good intentions towards Nigeria's natural environment.

Congratulations to the winners. Congrats to you Atitebi for the successful programme. Campaigns or competitions like this are really useful as they inspire contestants to think on and around environment and convey their thoughts through pics. Also they provide a great way to involve young people constructively in promoting a good clean & green environment . Good job , Atitebi. Thanks for sharing.

Good job Atitebi. I really liked the way you made a whole lot of people(over 320 that is) to care and think about the nature. I believe competitions like these should be increased to increase the amount of youngsters caring about the environment.
