Climate change is global phenomenon starting from environment and affecting environmental parameters. Climate change induced(about 88%) by anthropogenic emission  of green house gases  as water vapor, CO2, CH4, N2O, and CFCs. Nepal?s agri based economy is threaten by affecting human heath, resources etc. Temperature recorded rates of warming is greater in Himalaya (0.040c to 0.090C) than global average(0.03 to 0.070C) thus Himalayan region has played a special role in understanding climate change mainly through study of glaciers.  Climate change has affect the public health with disease as cardio-respiratory, injuries, psychological stress & malnutrition, vector borne disease and water borne diseases which affect the Nepalese agriculture labor. Climate change impact on agriculture has decrease in productivity in certain area whereas increase in other. Rainfall pattern shifting in onset and retreat of rainfall not only affects the rainfed farming in Nepal also it bring drought and floods affecting moisture availability, erosion and inundation of standing crops. Climate change has shown initial positive effect (increased temp and co2 content) but shown negative impacts in the long run. Positive: Enhanced photosynthesis, water use efficiency, soil microbial activities. Negative: Productivity of crop, nutritional value, soil fertility, microbial activities, desertification, shifting of pest and disease in higher elevation direct and indirect impact in economy, effects on livestock, extinction of the local gene pool etc results in damaging effect in agriculture and Nepal?s agriculture based economy. It?s time for work to done from grass root level but initiation from higher authorities to save the environment and country.

  • Dharmendra Kapri says :
Development in Nepal is already being affected by climate change. Economic growth is dependent on the agricultural sector, which is sensitive to variations in the climate. Extreme events, such as glacial lake outburst floods, threaten lives and livelihoods.

We also experience a lot of such in our day to day life...few years back also, there was no rain in UAE in a year ir maximum a day in a year, but since last couple of years, we notice rains happening in UAE many a times in a year...nice report...

  • Arushi Madan says :
Climate change is real and underway, so there is a need of impact identification and adoption to cope with vulnerabilities in agricultural sector. In Nepalese agriculture, the time has come for the authorities to find out adaptive measures to mitigate the effects to reduce untold natural calamities and miseries due to recent erratic weather pattern. Some of the measures like development of irrigation infrastructure to reduce drought hazards, development of heat & drought resisitant varieties/breeds, use of safe agrochemicals to prevent damage from pest / disease in the crops and preventive measures to reduce the impact of climate change related hazards.

climate change will cause change in the agriculture pattern and mostly reduce the productivity.
Also, GLOF is likely to increase and this has ket the life of people in himalayan region at stake.

I've also read some articles oabout the impacts on agriculture that climate change has. Due to changes in climate and melting ice, the grounds for farming is constantly being altered. Soon, the productivity of crops for many regions will decrease and others will be facing matters of desertification.
