A day in the top most polluted city

by | 24-09-2014 00:20 recommendations 0

No  body wants waste as a part of their joyful life. The people in my city wants the same but still their life is centered around waste. Either they like to live like so or they don't bother about it. But those belonging to later one, just think like What I'm going to do alone. A single man is nothing. So he just bear the burden of foul smell, waste.

Through the NH-98 Highway, in a high class area, there is a golden collection of waste. It contains all the epidemics, bacteria, viruses, flies that cause malaria, dengue. It has got the animals looking for food, rag pickers , whose condition are drastic, searching for a living. Along with it, we will also find a crane, which the government has forgot. Rather than something expected, I found pigs inside the cranes. Obviously there isn't any proper drainage system in the whole city ( see in the figure below ). So when it rains the street beside the golden collection of waste, gets a new color, from White to Black. Every worse condition that one can imagine, we can find it there. When it rains, the street get filled with extremely dirty water. The waste starts to generate foul smell. Since it's National Highway, majority of people pass through this street and for up to 100 meter, they have to  tightly press their nose with their handkerchief. Dogs usually find their way of living in these waste.  They always find some foods in that, which if a humans gets either he will get unconscious or will end up vomiting.

I went their to click some photograph. I saw the rag pickers. I saw the crane. I saw a municipal worker coming with a collection of waste in a vehicle that looks like it's on the verge of extinction. I started taking the photographs, when one of them, thinking of me as a reporter, said " Sir. As you can see, we have already reached the hell without seeing heaven. The government has become deaf and blind. I have heard you people are very powerful. Please unfold their dirty work in front of the world. And make us live in peace." And suddenly tears came into his eyes. Later I found, he lives just beside the street and his child got attacked with malaria. Finding out that, I didn't said anything. I took a cab and went back home. The location of the street is Gardanibagh.

The government has completely got blind. The government workers are extremely lazy especially the municipal workers. Their working vehicles works without  a number plate, looks like it's on the verge of extinction. They just want the things to be as the same as it is. They don't listen to anyone. And no one can do anything against them unless they are in a majority of at least 200 people. Because in India, the political system is drastic. If you file a case against a minister because he don't do his job properly, then either you will get killed or will get a reverse case against yourself. Even the head judge of High court said " This city is the worst city among all. God knows what will happen to it.". My city is listed among the top 5 most polluted cities, " PATNA". That's my city.
In the last month of my ambassador program, what I will write will be in contrast to the above mentioned features. I mean I'm sure everything will completely change with my efforts along with the help of Tunza eco-generation.

The garbage is usually dumped on vacant lots, along utility right-of-ways, on publicand private lands, and at other normally unattended locations.
Illegal dumping occurs for a variety of reasons, including: lack of public awareness about the issue and lack of judicial understanding of environmental laws, and therefore, low fines. also dumps depress the value of surrounding land and neighborhoods.

Both the gov. And peoples are responsible for illegal dumping. I think a good public awareness campaign can help minimize illegal dumping and compensate for a lackof staffing or resources.

Pictures show how pathetic waste management is in Patna. Really a very sad state means lots n lots need to be done . First of all , waste itself needs to be reduced so need to promote "Reduce , Reuse and Recycle "policy. Then waste segregation. And also this garbage yard or landfill area should be secluded from common people /residential area . Thanks for sharing , Basu. Wish you all the best in your efforts towards improving it . Looking forward to your next report on the same.

Wow, this article has really vivid facts of waste management issue in India. Thank you so much for your effort visiting that area. The pictures clearly show the negative impacts on health and water resources around that area. The situation seems out of control. Consistent management is urgently needed or it might lead epidemic diseases and destruction of ecosystem.
