VERTICAL FARMING PROJECT AT SD N 4 JAMBU MLONGGO JEPARA

by | 22-11-2014 06:54 recommendations 1

Vertical garden is quite similar with vertical farming in which both of them emphasize on optimizing building space to be cultivated with agricultural plants. IGAF boards - Mega Fitria, Angga Dwi I, Hanny Zuyinah and Orita Mega Delani - committed a real action to educate students of SD N 4 Jambu of understanding what vertical farming is.

In other hand, IGAF also took responsible in engaging students within implementing vertical farming system in the school. In this project, IGAF attempted to utilize used bootles and organic fertilizer to cultivating agricultural plants. It was due to accelerating programme of Climate Smart Agriculture emphasizing on reducing GHGs.

There were 50 students involved with some agendas. In project execution, IGAF committee explained and taught students of SD N 4 Jambu to know well whatis agriculture and climate change firstly. After this all committee told students about vertical farming including what vertical farming, plants used, methode used, and techology used. After this session, all students were engaged to cultivate agricultural plants around their school. Previously, IGAF committee also explained 3R concept in which by using bottles wastes for planting media (pot), and taught about organic farming.

Vertical farming is a very affordable yet functional method . I loved how young kids were involved in this, but most importantly I appreciated the use of simple techniques to showcase nature at its best and prove that initiatives like this can be simple yet very effective :)))

Although i don't see a lot of improvement at the nature by this gesture, i believe a bigger impact has been received well by the children which is being more aware of their environment. I am one of person that think by educating pre-teen or youth of how to taking care of the environment will have a bigger outcome rather than putting a lot of money and effort to make existing technology more environmental friendly.
