Last week as a part of our field work, we, students of Masters in Sustainable development went Ghale Gaun in Lamjung district of Nepal. Renowned for its hospitality and exemplary home stay facility for tourists, the place attracts nearly 20000+ domestic and more than 500 interantional tourists annually. Promoted as tourist destination from more than a decade back the place has not developed only as a famous tourist destination but the tourism has also improved the livelihood of people.

Here are some of the clicks that I took in the village-

mountain view from Ghale Gaun

These mountains are the main attraction of the village, these mountain look stunning in the morning while one can enjoy the nature throughout the day.

Welcoming the visitors

But nature is not the only thing that attracts tourists in this place. warm hospitality and homely environment of the village has made it "Home" a far from home of many.

There is nothing artificial here. Tourists feel like living in the the typical Ghale and Gurung community. They are served with the local food of the people, nothing comes out of the community. People till they stay in the Ghale community they live lives of the local people in local condition.

Be it in the morning or day or evening people can enjoy the view. with warm smile from every single individual of the community. People can not only enjoy the nature with freedom but also live experience of being to place close to nature and people attached with nature.

Dance during the function

The most interesting product of Ghale Gaun is the  blend of culture, nature and tourism. Tourists can not only enjoy the view of nature but also live the culture of people. We were lucky enough to observe two different cultural events.

Tourists are offered to watch cultural dances with special prices, but we could watch the two community function with ease and free of cost as we were at the actual time of the function.

people earning their livelihood

The tourism has not only promoted the livelihood of people who are offering homestay in the community (36 out of 115 household) but the entire village. As the household offering may not have every product to be served to the tourist, people around the village sell their products (their local products ranging from vegetables, beverages to clothing material).

In this way the tourism has too helped the people for earning their livelihood and gradually improving. Our visit to Ghale Gaun and observing and staying there for 3 days made me conclude Ghale gaun is the perfect blend of people, nature and culture.
