The Kaziranga National Park is one among the wonders which the spectacular region of northeast India possess, and the exquisite one-horned rhinoceros (Rhinoceros unicornis), just adds another charm to the natural biodiversity of the region. The Kaziranga National Park is located in the floodplains of the Brahmaputra river, which is widely known as the Burha Luit in the native Assamese language, enjoying a typical subtropical monsoon. It was during the year in 1908, when conservation efforts kick-started and as happened, followed until 1974 when it was declared as a ?National Park? with due recognition by the Government of India. The Kaziranga National Park, is among the few geographical regions, which is the house of famous one-horned rhinoceros, also, according the research and statistics, the Kaziranga National Park hosts the largest population of this famous one-horned rhinoceros. It is instrumental to the lives of the natives and everyone of the entire NE region do have emotional and sensitive attachments to it as much because it is an identity which represents the rich heritage of a gamut of bio-diversity. As seen in recent times, the present status regarding conservation and protection of the famous one-horned rhinoceros is not welcoming, as because the illegal activities of poaching is increasing day-by-day and the borders covering and protecting the park is, mostly porous, which makes it easy for the poachers to target and attack the rhinoceros, for the lucrative money-making business, while the efforts made by the concerned authorities is very minuscule, on what had to be done in a much higher scale and efforts towards the interests of the innocent species of nature. The wildlife agencies and government, both are failing completely towards sustaining their duties, that too – sincerely. According to statistics, during 2014, about 26 rhinos had been killed in an unprecedented manner and the inclination is still changing, more and more are being killed. And the worst part is, recently the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), looking at its present status, included the famous KNP in the lists of ?significant concern,? because of signs of threatening deterioration and vulnerability of different species. Now-a-days as because a very few of the rhinoceros populace do live and survive outside the protected national parks and wildlife sanctuaries, and thus, the continuous ongoing unwanted activities, has definitely raised serious concerns among the citizens of the state, as well as the law courts, in view of the benefits of the rhinoceros population. On a war footing, immediate steps for protection of the rhino species, is highly encouraged and envisaged. This is the need of the hour, or else sooner or later, the story will be different, which is highly unanticipated in a greener and harmonious-sustained future. What I believe, and most of the concerned youth and other people, now is the time for the concerned authorities to take up serious, bold and strict measures to stop the menace and curb out the recent ill-happenings. Introduction of highly skilled, trained and armed forest guards and other personnel, and high-tech drones for trekking and chasing the imprints of poachers can be beneficial. The usage of latest powered-rifles, and GPS monitoring systems can bring a significant change and make the difference in practicing anti-poaching activities. Recently, in my previous report, it was highlighted that the recent increase in tiger population had been a commendable achievement, in the same way with the same tactics and other policies, it is high time for the authorities to adopt similar practices, in order to keep safe the rhino population, so that they live freely without any sort of danger, and bring up amended laws to strictly held the wrongdoers behind the bars. I'd love to receive interesting suggestions from esteemed ambassadors and eco-generation family, of which I'd compile and thinking of an editorial article in a prestigious national daily which would view the concerns from many corners of the world.

Dear Abhilash it is high time to act as even IUCN has listed Kaziranga National Park in significant concern list. To cope with the threat of poaching one horned rhinoceros we should use modern technologies like GPS, satellite technology etc and only institutionalized effort will result visible effects. We youths must draw the attention of concerned authorities for unified action so that famous one horned rhinoceros stays safe in its natural habitat. Best of luck for an editorial article. Go on :)

I agree Abhilash with your concern. Authorities must protect all endangered species & other wild animals. Poaching must be punishable with stringent punitive measures & round the clock electronic monitoring must be organized like motion sensor cameras etc.
All the best & keep us posted with your further developments in this regard.

Undoubtedly , Kaziranga is the most important stronghold for the Indian rhinoceros. Perennial flooding and heavy rains have been causing death of these and other wild animals and damage to the conservation infrastructures. To escape the water-logged areas, many animals migrate to elevated regions outside the park boundaries where they are susceptible to hunting, hit by speeding vehicles, or subject to reprisals by villagers for damaging their crops. So I feel authorities should improve the infrastructure to tackle this issue. Thanks for sharing your concern. Glad to know that you are willing to raise this through national media. All the best.
