111 tree plantation for a girl baby - an inspiring story |
---|
India is a country with an unimaginable blend of diversified cultures, languages, religions and it is often told that ?there are many Inidas inside one India?? In India and many countries, that still favours the birth of a son over a daughter and socially this is another big challenge to the entire mankind. Recently I came across one amazing green story from India which is very inspiring from social aspect also and I could not resist myself in sharing this in this forum? But inside India only, there is one village in Rajasthan state (piplanti village), which not only embraces daughters but has created a tradition that benefits both the local people and the planet. This endearing village makes a conscious effort to save girl children and the green cover at the same time, by planting 111 trees every time a girl is born. A brilliant exercise in eco-feminism, this should inspire India and the rest of the world. The village gathers as a community and plants 111 fruit trees in honour of every newborn female child. Village residents collect Rs. 21,000 (350 USD) between themselves and Rs.10,000 (167 USD) from the girl?s parents. This sum of Rs. 31,000 (517 USD) is made into a 20-year fixed deposit for the girl Parents are legally bound by a signed affidavit stating that their daughter will receive proper education. The affidavit also mandates that the girl should be married only after she reaches legal age and the trees planted after her birth have been correctly looked after. The community ensures that the trees survive, attaining fruition as the girl grows up. |

This is really very inspiring specially because it happens in a country where male babies are favoured over females. I like the word eco-feminism so appropriate here.

So inspiring! The culture is beautiful! So thoughtful to save both the newborn children and the environment t the same time. By doing this, the new generation will carry on the sustainable development for they gained the proper education. Thanks for sharing, Unmesh!

This is a great idea! Making our Earth green at the same time protecting female birth. I like the concept of eco-feminism. We should protect Mother Earth as well as our mothers of the Earth!

You have stirred a green thought & spread awareness about India's diverse traditions in one report, Unmesh.
Tree planting on any pretext is indeed good & must be encouraged.
Equality, Education, Upbringing all are required for the girl child as well as boy child. There must be fair play in gender equality.
I liked the tradition in Rajasthan village & saving money is another great aspect of this unique culture.

This is a remarkable story... So much we can learn from our roots. I am optimistic that the village, with this sort of tradition would grow great men and women beaming in knowledge and environmental consciousness that they would be game changers in India and the world at large. Thanks Unmesh for sharing... I would share this story with my friends too. :)

What an inspiring tradition! Thank you for sharing the beautiful story, Unmesh :)
It doesn't only raises girls social status but grow them as eco-friendly women.

It is indeed a very inspiring story. I truely respect this village and their tradition. Trees , fixed deposit , assured education for girl and no early marriage for the girl WOW! What an ideal society this village is demonstrating.
India needs to give equal respect to girls and families need to be equally happy when baby girl is born to them.
I agree with you Unmesh that we all /our families /communities should start such great practices protecting not only the environment and saving Mother Earth but also safeguarding the daughter's future.
Thanks so much for sharing this "feel good" story.

I had read about this a month ago. The actions of these villagers is truly thought-provoking and it is also gives all of us an elating indication that India is not only advancing as a developing country in terms of finance and and well-fare but also in terms of changing mindsets! Glad to know that social evils in Indian society are mitigating with time and the nation at the same time is becoming envirronmental conscious:) Thanks for sharing the report Unmesh:)
