Wastage of Energy in UAE

by | 25-08-2016 23:18 recommendations 0

UAE has been doing a lot in favour of the Environment recently .
The nation has launched many eco projects for sustainable energy but arent being able to cope up with the high rates of consumption.

UAE residents consumes 8,271 kilogrammes of oil equivalent energy (kgoe) p.a. which is 3,254 kgoe and 7,164 kgoe for the UK and the US respectively and the consumption in UAE are going to rise in near future .

So What could be the reason behind these heavy consumption ?

Oil , yes oil . UAE has got abundant of Oil Reserves and that is the main reason the rate of the power here in UAE is very economical .
These economical prices seem to be an advantage to the residents pocket but can be real bad for the environment .

The Country has been producing most of their electricity from the oil and the heavy consumption of the power in the country lead to huge wastage.

People residing in UAE would know how much of power is being wasted on the lights and Air Conditioning. Centralised Air Conditioning is installed in most of the buildings here , which leads to wastage all over the year.
Whenever i go to a mall here in the country i find cooler than needed , i find extra lights being used all the time . I see people individually travelling on cars rather than public transport .
The govt needs to concentrate on these issues too parallel to launching the eco friendly projects.

By making ourselves extra comfortable indoors , which makes it uncomfortable for those working outside in hot temperatures.

The heat in UAE rises every year and the main reason is due to the green house gases coming out of the high and over usage of Vehicles and Air conditioners .

The government of UAE needs to put control over the heavy power consumption or these eco friendly projects of theirs would be of no USE .

Thanks for a detailed report, Tanverjit! Actually, I believe the price of oil is the very factor that determines the energy consumption of a nation. However, the government cannot adjust the price easily since it will cause negative impacts to the poor, who do not have the ability to afford it. It is a dilemma. Thanks for sharing and have a great day!

I agree with you. I must say though that the battle with air conditioning in the UAE will be difficult, especially because of the extensive desertland in the emirates.

I agree with you that in malls it is extra cool-there is a scope of increasing AC temp (which will benefit environment), also lighting is overused but these days more and more places are using eco friendly lights and lamps like LED but I know that doesnot still mean that lights should be overused. At times I also wonder. Thanks for the report.
