In a near future, I would like to open an up-cycling workshop with my friends. In the workshop, I would like to invite young people who need to raise environmental awareness. A typical day schedule would go like this; we meet up in the morning and play a game that includes the environment. After some ice breaking, we would go outside and pick up the trash on the street. Then, we would come back and learn about separate collection of waste. We would have kids practice separating the waste by its type and eat some snacks. After eating some snacks, we would start up-cycling the trash that we have gathered from the streets and the trash from snack time. We would pick a topic and in a limited time, a team or an individual needs to make an artwork with the trash. When the time is up, we would gather around together and each of us would get a chance to see what others make. We would go through a presentation of crafts and time to talk about the artwork. Then, we would have a vote to see whose art is the most popular one. The winner would get a trophy made by up-cycling materials.

This is one of the projects that I would like to do in my community. Although it does sound like an a lot of work, I believe it would make even a slightest change in participants¡¯ perspective about trash. It would also inspire kids in our whole community to up-cycle and separate trash by its type.

    Hi there Jeewon!

This is quite a detailed workshop event and you are right in saying that this may take hard work and commitment to accomplish. But what I do know, is that an effort done for the purpose of the greater good is an effort well rewarded. In your c&#227es, I believe you will be rewarded with the smiles on the participant's faces when you see them actively participating in your event.

So take heart, the journey will be long, but the achievements will be great!

I wish you all the best with your workshop planning and execution.

    Stay driven okay!
    Yours sincerely
    Rosa Domingos
