Following the scientific facts that have demonstrated the relationship of some of the chemicals manufactured to ozone depletion, there has been an increase in efforts to find an appropriate solution to this problem, which threatens the life forms of the planet, resulting in the conclusion of the Vienna Convention for the Protection of the Ozone layer in 1985. In which states agreed on the need to cooperate in order to protect and halt the ozone layer, as well as to emphasize the need for a protocol establishing the obligations of States on the production and use of ozone-depleting substances, and global efforts in this regard culminated in the adoption of the Montreal Protocol On the ozone-depleting substances in 1987, which came into force in January 1989.

Ibrahim bin Yaqoub Al Harthy, head of the carbon Abatement technologies and Projects division of the Climate Change Mitigation Department of the General Directorate of Climate Affairs at the Ministry of Environment and Climate Affairs, confirmed that Oman had acceded to both the Vienna Convention and the Montreal Protocol in 1998 under Oman decree No. (73/1998), and ratified the Montreal and Beijing amendments in 2004 under Oman Decree No. 106 (2004), and the database for the protection of the ozone layer has been established since 2000, which is used by the ministry in registering the importing companies for ozone-depleting substances, Also enter the ozone Layer Protection licensing data for companies, enter corporate addresses and contact points with importing companies for ozone-depleting substances and identify import quotas for companies, and issue periodic national reports on quantities of ozone-depleting substances imported to Oman and sent to various international organizations.

Oman's most important achievements in the area of ozone layer protection are the preparation and implementation of the necessary regulations and legislation to meet the requirements of compliance with the conventions and protocols, and the implementation of several projects in cooperation with international bodies and organizations, where the total number of projects implemented is more than Fifteen projects in various sectors related to training and switching to the use of alternatives to ozone-depleting substances, participating in the implementation of studies, surveys and the preparation of strategies for Oman in relation to relevant international conventions and protocols such as the strategy Disposal of chlorofluorocarbons materials (TPMP) which contributed to the phase-out of the use of these substances as of 2010 in accordance with the requirements of the Montreal Protocol, as well as the phase-out strategy for HCFCs that would contribute to the phase-out of HCFCs in accordance with the Montreal Protocol phase-out schedule, Ministry has also implemented a series of comprehensive awareness-raising campaigns targeting most segments of society to educate citizens about the depletion of the ozone layer and to encourage them to preserve the ozone layer, including through awareness-raising programmes Lectures, radio and television meetings, printing brochures and printing of awareness posters aimed at familiarizing citizens with alternatives used for ozone-depleting substances, awareness advertisements in daily newspapers for citizens on the importance of stopping the use of equipment containing ODS materials, and use devices and techniques made of substances that are not harmful to the ozone layer and the implementation of some radio earshot and Graphic boards.

    Hey there Razan!

With all the media in a space that the issue of ozone depletion has been receiving it is understandable that organisations and governmental institutions have been stepping up to ensure that a lesser volume of chemicals are using the the toxic the toxic molecule combination call CFC.

The nation of Oman has greatly succeeded in to making sure that it has complied with the Montreal protocol and I wish the country the very best for the next 11 years to come so that they continue to fight the good fight against on-zone depletion.

    Thank you for reporting!
    Stay blessed
