United Nations World Day to Combat Desertification - June 17

by Sainath Manikandan | 17-06-2019 19:59 recommendations 1

United Nations celebrates 17 June every year as the World Day to Combat Desertification. This year marks the 25th anniversary of the UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD). This event provides an opportunity for us to work in a collective manner to show our commitment and also to restore our degraded land.

The slogan for this year is ¡°Let¡¯s grow the future together¡±.

As everyone can see and feel the effects of climate change recently, it is our prime responsibility to take care of our environment. We need to ensure that all global citizens have enough food, water and energy resources. We need to work together to preserve and restore environment sustainability.

A/RES/49/115 invites all states to devote the day to promoting public awareness. On this day, let¡¯s join together and engage more and more people to understand the significance of this day and take steps to avoid land degradation.

    Hi Sainath,

Thank you for writing about desertification on this wonderful and meaningful day. I think you touched an important issue of these days because as the temperature of the earth goes up, it seems that there are more lands that are getting dry without any rain which may eventually turn into desertification. We should look for sustainable development which we can protect and secure our current resources. I enjoyed reading your report.

    Hello Sainath

Thank you for letting us know about the world day to combat desertification. As you have pointed out, to ensure all global citizens access to enough food and clean water for survivals, sustainable land management is very important. Planting is definitely one way to make land rich and fertile again. Thank you for sharing your great work!
