by Prakriti Dhakal | 24-06-2019 16:37 recommendations 0

A Bibliography on Environmental Justice in Nepal is one of my favorite environmental book by Jagannath Adhikari & Sharad Ghimire published by Martin Chautari/ Centre for Social Research and Development in 2002. This bibliography will help students, researchers, project implementer, and policy makers identify and understand environmental justice problems in Nepal. Various studies related to the access of people to resources, distribution of ecological benefits and hazards and livelihood security are included in this bibliography.

Environmental justice is a considered important in improving environmental quality and enabling the sustainable use of resources and their protection, empowerment of the marginalized and improved livelihood security. Nepal being prone to impacts of climate change with only producing 0.027% of global Green House Gases.

There are three chapters with first chapter Natural Resources Management including forest resources, water resources and irrigation, women and resources and environmental impact assessment. Chapter two is about Urban Environment which includes solid waste management, water pollution, air pollution and other issues and Chapter Three includes about  Park-People Relation.

About Authors: Jagannath Adhikari, Ph.D., is a social scientist interested in various aspects of society-resources dynamics. He has authored a number of books on Nepal and Sharad Ghimire holds a Master's degree in botany. He has been conducting research on environmental conservation.

    Hi Prakriti,

Wow, this book looks hard. The title goes by 'A Bibliography on Environmental Justice in Nepal' and simply by reading the title, this book looks a bit difficult to me. Before reading your report, I did not know there is this term called Environmental justice which is a considered important in improving environmental quality and enabling the sustainable use of resources and their protection, empowerment of the marginalized and improved livelihood security. I think this will be an informative report to all ambassadors! :)

    Hello Prakriti

Environmental justice is a movement that grew from the recognition that ethnic minority or low-income people are susceptible to environmental pollutions. As you mentioned, environmental justice is very important in ensuring the sustainable use of the resources and improving livelihood security. Thank you for sharing your report with us!
