Edmond Becquerel founder of photovoltaic effect (Thematic)

Solar energy has been in existence for a number of decades now but do we know how it came to existence? We are enjoying the benefits of an invention that dates back to the 7th century when it was invented in its most primitive state, energy from the sun. 1n 1839, photovoltaic effect was discovered by a French physicist Edmond Becquerel when he noted that the cells produced more electricity when exposed to light. Almost 50 years after the photovoltaic effect discovery, another inventor from America, Charles Fritz created the first working selenium solar cells which have impacted so much to today’s technology. Becquerel is attributed with uncovering the potential of the photovoltaic effect and Fritz for actually creating the ancestors to all solar cells. Solar energy has since been used to power various places, space crafts, satellite and many others. Solar energy has interested so many people over time and gradually the cost and efficiency has kept on improving. Solar energy has become a realistic way of life for people to generate power for their homes and businesses. These invention of solar energy most specifically the photovoltaic effect discovery by Becquerel, has brought about cost effective and a leading source of clean, low-cost electricity for everyone that is also harmless to the ecosystem. Your report mentions really important aspects of scientific development: 'New scientific invention derives from the old one.' Thank you for introducing the old scientist who has contributed significantly on developing sustainable renewable resources: solar energy. Solar energy is virtually infinite so it would be good to develop solar panel.

Thank you for writing about the photovoltaic effect! The solar cell itself is using a photovoltaic effect. I thought different scientists found the photovoltaic effect, but I was wrong! :) Thank you for introducing this scientist. Additionally, the first efficient solar cell was invented in Bell's laboratory in the 1950s'. At that time, efficiency was only 4~5%, but the modern solar cell is almost 40%. Amazing advancement!

Anyway, thank you for introducing me to a history of photovoltaic effect!
