Thematic Report: Wangari Maathai, Real Earth Warrior

by Okoth Okoth | 23-03-2020 13:47 recommendations 0

When our articles on Earth Warriors go without mentioning this relentless and brave woman Wangari Maathai, we lie to ourselves. Not that i dont recognize other earth heroes and heroines like me, huh. Only that her stories and environment prorection efforts inspire the living and the dead.

Wangari Maathai has fought many battles with the government of Kenya during the late President Moi's regime. She was arrested and jailed several time in her quest to plant trees in Karura forest and bar the government from grabbing public land in favor to her allies.

Most importantly, the late Maathai started the Green Belt Movement in Kenya in order to fight soil erosion and produce sustainable wood for fuel and stop forest encroachment. The initiative has helped women who are the main users of wood fuel plant more than 30 million trees in Kenya.

Hi Okoth Okoth, this is a mentor, Sang Su.

From the article, I could presume that Wangari Maathai really loves the ecosystem. Preserving ecosystem not only provides good habitats for many animals, but also is beneficial to humans since we are living in the ecosystem. By her activities, I am sure that the environment has been better.
