Thematic report: Marine Pollution

by Sandhya Adhikari | 04-07-2020 21:25 recommendations 0

How sweet it is to eat all those candies sharing nobody,

How crunchier it is to finish all those packets of chips within a minutes without sharing anyone,

Shit all those wrappers,

Who cares??

Dear Human for even a few second did the thought provoke you, Where does those plastic wrappers goes??

No not even for a few macro second we think of where actually those wrapper and micro plastics gets collected and deposited. All those plastics, wrappers, chemicals gets collected at the oceans though various pathways either by leaching, run off or erosion and of course marine pollution is one threat as well pressing challenge in the context of today¡¯s world. Mainly our oceans get flooded with two types of pollutats  I.e chemical and trash.

The rampant use of chemical pesticides or nutrients by the farmers leads to the runoff of chemicals into waterways which finally flows into the oceans and due to the presence of appreciable amount of nitrogen and phosphorous on the coastal ocean promotes the growth of algal blooms which directly and indirectly causes impact to the marine living creatures by robbing oxygen from water leaving dead zones where only few organisms can survive. Similarly trash includes all the manufactured plastics products that gets accumulated to the oceans. The plastic products like shopping bags, beverages bottles along with cigarette butts, food wrappers. Plastic pollution is one of the major problems due to its long lasting and persistence non decomposing nature. Major literature laureates has showed that plastic requires an average of 450 years for its decomposition. The accumulated thrash has danger to all the creatures, Marine animals gets tangled and some gets injured, some marine animals mistake it as a food and engulf it due to which the chemicals from the plastic passes into their tissues as a result of which sometimes bio accumulation and bio magnification takes place in the higher organisms.

To sum up its a very utmost need to have the solution for the marine pollution which include prevention and clean up. Consumer have to adopt the habit of using degradable plastics as well using non persistent organic pesticides as well reusing plastics. Many countries are taking and enforcing dynamic actions in this serious issues. According to 2018 Report from UN more than 60 countries has enforced regulations to minimize and ban the use of disposable plastics items.

(P.s: I extremely apologize for the late submission of my report, i hope my attached email has clearly defined my situation and thank you Eco Generation for your support every time when i had needed the most. I assure to fulfill all my responsibility and remaining works so soon).

    Hello Sandhya di,
Your report seems to be very useful and interesting in our life. Really plastics are prone to Living being lives. Mainly the marine animals are being harmed through it. The undisposable materials are creating disturbance in marine animals. Their life are seem to be in dengerous. It may cause severe risk to future generation. So the present population should make plans and work on it for the better life of future marinists. We are who can only deal on it.
    For your regard,

Hi Sandhya Adhikari, this is a mentor, Sang Su Lee.

I've received your email. I am so sorry that I did not reply to you. T.T

What a nice and fun introduction. It is really eye-catching. Indeed humans' activities took tolls on the marine environment badly. As you've mentioned, microplastic, agricultural chemicals, and so on are main causes of marine pollution. I strongly agree that we need to find solution to abate this issue.

Thank you for your good article.

    Green Cheers~

    Hello Taehyun Mentor,
Thank you for your compliment, I totally agree with you and Indeed it seems to be terrible to imagine but what could be an alternative? At first the habit of consumer should be changed regarding the use of plastics. plastics has made human so dependent, When I visit market and shop I used to see consumer bargaining with seller just because they didnot get plastic bag to carry their goods. Such a pathetic condition.
Once again Thank you so much Mentor.

Hello Sandhya Adhikari, this is mentor Taehyun!

It seems that plastic and ocean pollution are very closely related. It's a pity that non-spoiling human inventions are polluting the ocean as well as the soil. Using plastic for decomposition may be a good solution to marine pollution caused by plastic, but using biodegradable plastic will require more attention. Imagine plastic being decomposed and dissolved in the ocean. We have to drink the water. How terrible is it?

    Thank you for the report!

    Green cheers!
