Environment and architecture

The real scenario I have been observing throughout my travel in different parts of the world is that the architecture of the different places is different. These architecture is based on environmental condition. In the Darjeeling where I have recently visited the houses have a typical structure.

These structures are mainly designed to protect from snow and winter. These designs are entirely designed depending upon the environment. Similarly, we have been to Illam in Nepal where the buildings were made up of wood with peak type roof style. It was also designed for protection from snow.

When we moved to hot places, the buildings were of different architecture. In Nepal, it is called as truss are put in every people home in Terai. Basically, this structure protects the home from rain as well as extreme hot weather in Terai.

When it comes to environment, the natural calamities would also come into consideration. The architecture greatly affects the protection of buildings from calamities. Nepal has been hit by devastating earthquake that destroyed numbers of lives, monuments and buildings. Numbers of lives got collapsed and buried in the buildings itself. Only if the architecture of the buildings were prepared earthquake resistant, number of lives would have been saved and rescued.

The architecture of the buildings in Japan is designed so that it protects from the high magnitude earthquake as well.

Thus, these architecture helps in proper positioning of a facility in relation to the environment. The proper architect helps to fix the buildings and protects from different natural as well as artificial challenges, along with adjusts the facility to the natural resources at the site.

We are the generation who are aware of the changing environment, aware on the consequences of calamities, aware on the need of proper architect, aware of the importance of environment, and aware of the interlinked of different aspects of environment. So, let¡¯s don¡¯t hesitate and stand up for these imports issue from own level from today for better future tomorrow.

I don't have much idea on it, however I try my effort to understand these matters understanding the very strong relationship between environment and the architecture.
Our mentor is from architecture field, so I am hopeful to hear from mentor on this topic with more insightful thought.

    Hi Asmita,
    This is your mentor Yuseon:D

It must have been a great experience to travel around the world check out each country's architecture. As you have mentioned, environment is a sure factor in deciding architecture. However, the reverse is also correct. I'm also curious about your insight on how architecture gets to affect the environment, and ways to reduce harm:)

    Thanks for the report!

    Hi Asmita,

This is your mentor Debbie. :)

You are one day late!! Well, still, great job for completing your work! :D

I love how you used a local saying from Nepal that ¡®structure protects the home??. It??s true! A good structure not only protects us from daily weather changes like rain or hot weather but also from extreme conditions like natural disasters. This is partly why we need ¡®smart?? structures as well.

    Thanks for sharing, Asmita.

    Green Cheers,

Debbie
