Short Article About Waste

by Chabala Chisenga | 03-09-2021 06:58 recommendations 1

Hello team,

To start with we all need to know what waste is; Waste is a product or substance which is no longer suited for its intended use. Whereas in natural ecosystems waste (i.e. oxygen, carbon dioxide and dead organic matter) is used as food or a reactant, waste materials resulting from human activities are often highly resilient and take a long time to decompose, Zero waste in my own understanding means disposing unwanted waste in a proper manner.

Fellow youths we all need to see to it that we have zero waste out there, waste disposed of wrongly, we have different types of waste of which I will only mention 3;

Municipal solid waste - This consists of everyday items such as product packaging, yard trimmings, furniture, clothing, bottles and cans, food, newspapers, appliances, electronics and batteries.

E-waste - This consists of  Used electronics which are destined for refurbishment, reuse, resale, salvage recycling through material recovery, or disposal.

Green Waste - This is any organic waste that can be composted, It is usually composed of refuse from gardens such as grass clippings or leaves, and domestic or industrial kitchen wastes.

Failure to dispose of waste correctly leads to a lot of health problems like Soil Contamination, Water Contamination of which many people can loose there lives to diseases like cholera, Air Contamination this can also cause harm towards animal and marine life,  let's see to it that we protect our health and that of the everyone out there.

Waste needs to be disposed off by burying, burning or through the bins, let's ensure that we have zero waste I'm glade that my country Zambia has taken a step in insuring that everyone's health is safeguarded by all means.

Thank you,

    Hello Chabala,
    THis is your mentor Hannah.

As the first article based on the theme 'Zero waste', I think it is a wonderful start. From the term zero waste, it is important to think what waste is and how it is classified.
Among diverse kinds of wastes, you mentioned municipal solid, green, and e-waste. Do you have ideas for zero waste achievement of those specific kinds of waste?? It would be great to think about.

Nice job and keep up the great work :)

    Hello Chabala,

    This is your Mentor Joon.

You are the first one to write the report with the designated theme.
Zero Waste is an issue that is gaining popular once again around the world.
As you have mentioned in your article, disposing unwanted waste in a proper manner
could also be the way to participate to Zero waste movement.
If we classify the garbage in proper manner, we could find ways to reuse it in different places. One of the examples can be an urban mine which collects the E-waste and obtain metal parts such as gold so they can be used once again.

On the other hand, if it is not separated properly, there might be chances that can pollute the environment. Therefore, clarifying ways to dispose waste is a first step on participating the Zero waste movement.

Well done, and let's keep up.

    Best,

    Joon
