Zero Waste in Rwanda.

by Frank Mugisha | 06-09-2021 07:52 recommendations 1

Since 2004, Rwanda began a process of carrying out national bans to reduce the consumption and manufacturing of single-use plastic in the country. In contrast to polluting approaches like ¡°waste-to-energy¡± incinerators and landfills,  the approach to tackling plastic waste management entailed the enforcement of strong policies, which has reaped environmental, social and economic benefits.

The capital city of Kigali in Rwanda is considered one of the tidiest urban areas in the African continent and has therefore fostered a sense of national pride in citizens who celebrate their clean and green country. Rwanda was the first country in the African region to introduce a law banning plastic and is now recognised as one of the few countries in the world to progressively react to the issue of plastic pollution.

    Hello Frank,
    this is your mentor Joon.

Nice to know that Rwanda had a ban on single-use-plastics.
Would have been best if there was statistics on how much
the policy affected the environment. It is because though some policies
sound very effective, it might not be the case as it may be too
strict and unrealistic. That is why legislators should evaluate well
on social effects and control the tightness of policies.

Good job and lets keep it up.

    Yours,

    Joon

    Hello Frank,
    this is your mentor Hannah.

Your article on how Rwanda is implementing eco friendly policies. I didn't know Rwanda banned usage of plastic, and I wonder how great influence it is to environment, although it may be a little inconvenient. Thank you for your contribution to Tunza community.
Nice job and keep up the great work ;)
