Introduction
Cheetahs are a major tourist attraction in South Africa! Sadly however, due to the eating of sheep by cheetahs on farmlands, some farmers resort to poisoning, shooting or trapping the cheetahs and these resorts have reduced their numbers in South Africa. Also, loss of habitat through urbanization has affected cheetah populations. We loved the frequent sightings of cheetahs on out trips to the Kruger National Park but sightings are becoming infrequent by the years. On the IUCN Red List status, they are Vulnerable in South Africa and these pose a problem both to the tourism industry and the ecosystem.

Conservation efforts : One major way of conserving their populations is solving the Human Wildlife Conflicts at hand. Initiatives like using Guard/shepherd dogs on farms to prevent cheetah attacks have been implemented by organizations like the Cheetah Conservation Fund and the Cheetah Outreach and those have proven useful.
