Pterinopelma sazimai is an endemic Brazilian species, known to live in four areas in Serra do Espinhaço, in the states of Bahia and Minas Gerais. The distribution of this tarantula is apparently associated with high altitudes, in an area estimated in 5642Km2. Its population is severely fragmented across this area, because is restricted to the top of hills. The threats to the Pterinopelma sazimai include the illegal commerce of this creature, that is utilized as a domestic pet due to its beautiful blue color. Besides that, human activities in its habitat, like sand and wood extraction and frequent fires are compromising this species.
