Nature is Life.

Renova Uwingabire (Rwanda)

UN environment Second Prize

Every morning in Rwanda we wake up to the songs of birds, as the clouds slide from darkness to pink bluish bright colors. At this time of the day many people are up to work or simply to see the morning unfolding and the sun coming out. Every morning a piece of nature is opened up for me to appreciate the one who created the universe. Nature is not simply the clouds, nor the sun. Nature is everything which is not man made or alien made. Nature is surrounding most of the world's population, but less people take time to appreciate that some pieces of originality are still visible. With nature human beings get food, medicine, and oxygen.
In writing this essay, the main point is not to impress, but to express how nature is so crucial, and so denied by those who need it the most. In my agricultural experience, I learnt that reviving fresh food is from plants and animals. This fact amazes me, because the world's nature is perishing. Animals are part of nature as well as plants. If the world keeps on ignoring nature by cutting down the trees, hunting down animals, and other exterminating activities to nature, then starvation will become our best friend and famine will keep us company. The end result of no real fresh food, starvation and hunger will be death and extinction of human beings. Therefore, it is upon us to keep on playing with our lives or taking action to protect what will sustain us as long as we are still boarding the planet Earth.
My brother wakes up with dry cough some times. It becomes very irritating and annoying because the sounds keep on ringing in the house corridors. The only medicine which easily cures him is eating herbs, honey and lemon. This is done by most of the Rwandan families, as they like to cure people with natural medicines. Natural medicines are more trust worthy than man made medicines because nature is better than mixed chemicals. Most of industrial made have a lot of side effects compared to natural medicines. If the world keeps on making it hard for these medical plants to grow, then how many poor families, and nature activists who will suffer and die simply because they don't have their preferred medicines. Nature is the road to good health compared to man-made medicines. If human beings are part of nature, then they are to be healed by nature not by their made up chemicals. This is because God created nature with a full circle of their mode of living.
The earth is falling short of clean air. In China 1% among 560 million city dwellers breathe clean air as of European Union study standards. This is caused by burning of coal which lead to emission of harmful gases. Countries are carelessly emitting poisonous gases in the atmosphere. The problem with these gases is that they reduce oxygen levels, hence increasing the poor living conditions of men as they get cancer, breathing diseases, and others. Before countries ran for high economic growth ways which are unfriendly to the environment, 35% of air was oxygen (clean air), now approximately 20% of air is oxygen (polluted air). This means that, by destroying nature, we are destroying the air that we breathe to wake up the next morning and whatever we do.
All in all, it is not what we strive for to reach the success and riches that will sustain our survival. Nature is the key to the world's survival. Unless we decide to look for environmental friendly modes of reaching success, then human kind will be history, never been there to enjoy success. I am a person who finds beauty within a natural world, more than in a destroyed value added world. The point is not laying down everything to be nature, the point is protecting nature to stay alive in it. If earth is currently the sole planet with nature supporting life, then whatever people do in destroying it, they are digging their own graves. I believe that human beings, animals, and plants are part of nature. Therefore, protecting nature is self-protection. Nature is life.
