WASTE DUMPING POLLUTES ENVIRONMENT

Dumping of waste has been a problem in most countries in the world, particularly in third world countries. In Kenya at coastal region a problem has arised due to dumping of waste near the ocean. The Kenya marine and fishers reaserch institute (KEMFRI) has issued a warning to residents on cancer contractions. When these wastes (plastic and electronic material) are burnt in low temperatures they realese high toxic compounds known as dioxins which is responsible for cancer. The dump site also being near the ocean contaminates water thus harming marine life. When taken by fish these contaminated water leaves toxins in fish cells and the fish being unable to have a mechanism to eliminate the toxins they are taken to human beings on eating fish. Human being also are unable to eliminate the toxic substances they are exposed to kidney diseases. Damping sites also has a problem to oxygen due to the oxygen degradation when decomposing the organic materials these leads to emissions of high amounts of carbon to the environment.Every body has a role to ensure that the dumping waste is properly taken care of to avoid both environmental, economical and human problems
