This is Gretha Thunberg and all of you hopefully aware of her speeches on environmental issues. Many do not like her emotionality and appearance. Even though her advocacy initiated the establishment of the Climate Emergency Fund which attracted 500,000 EUR investments, now European Committee will spend every fourth euro on the minimization of the environmental changes starting 2021 until 2027 (Yes, read it again) and also she impacted on the increase of the fraction of green parties in the European Parliament since last elections.

Even though her aggressive theses are overplayed. Her beliefs are a good but a radical representation of them is not, especially, for environmentally passive citizens and conservative people. The main reason of such stubborn against her is the cost of comfort. Greta is good at school-striking, however, she overlooks on the economical expenses of implementation green energy technologies. It was easy to her pass the ocean on the boat in four-week journey, which is highly costly and is not affordable to most of other nations.

I would like to introduce to some of you - Boyan Slat, a 25 years old Dutch inventor, CEO of The Ocean Cleanup. At age 16, Slat devoted a school project for investigation into ocean plastic pollution, especially, the impossibility to clean up. Later he came up with the idea to build a passive system, using the circulating ocean current. He presented his research results on TEDxDelft.

He even drop out from his university to work on his idea and developed it into The Ocean Cleanup, which aised 2.2M USD through a crowd funding campaign with the help of 38,000 donors from 160 countries.Besides, Slat was awarded the Champions of the Earth award of the UNEP In 2014 and Forbes included Slat in Under30 list In 2016.

There are many eco heroes who don't catched by spotlight. Let's dissiminate not only radical ones, but also contributive activists. Thanks for reading and please, recommend it and share with others!

    Hi Yerdaulet.

This is such a insightful report.
Many people talk about Greta and many ambassadors write their reports about her too.
Most of the opinions are about her braveness and her dedication to the environment.

Reading your report, I totally agree with you that there are many environmental heros who are not as radical as Greta.

It's not that what Greta is doing is wrong, it's just that there are other ways of preserving the environment.

Thank you for the insightful report.

    Keep up the good work.

    Hello Yerdaulet!
    This is your mentor Lisa:)

It's such a refreshing viewpoint that you brought up here,
I certainly agree with you on some parts that the radical changes and pursuit of eco-friendly economy, technology are often very costly for some people. And if so, I think it is not the true 'sustainable energy' we have here because the SDGs 7 that deals with renewable energy clearly states that it should be affordable, by which it means that people should be able to afford it.

It is true that Greta is a bit radical in a sense, and the example that you gave Boyan is working in a very different way from Greta. However, I think the reason that the world has been spotlighting Greta is not that they support all of her argument but rather she is a symbol who lit the young people's awareness on the climate issue and motivated so many people all over the world to actually recognize the seriousness of the environmental and climate problem. She is a representative figure of the new era of climate literacy.
But, I do thank you for introducing us a new young climate activist, it's always good to have many heroes than one. And I do think that multiple ways of acting for climate issues should be promoted instead of one being overly praised.

Thank you for such a thoughtful argument and really, great work!
    Keep up that nice work:)
