Rationale of Study of my research

Regarding the loosed caused by aphids and negative consequences of chemicals to human health and environment, a viable and sustainable and sustainable alternative other than chemical method of aphid control is needed. It has been reported that over 2400 plant species belonging to about 170 natural families are known to have insecticidal properties (Biswas, 2013). Good Control of aphid can be obtained by spraying botanicals prepared by traditional method (Bakhetia, 1984 and Khurana et. Al., 1989) Among the 2400 species of botanicals in the world, about 324 species are found in Nepal. Out of 43 highly effective botanicals for insect control, 23 are found in Nepal in abundant amount (Neupane, 2005). Botanicals are rich source secondary metabolites. About 10,000 secondary sources of metabolites had been chemically identified in plant having insecticidal property. Some of the important metabolites found in plants are phenols, alkaloids, flavonoids, terpenes, Quinone, coumarin, etc. The effectiveness of these botanical compounds is because they possessed bitter, pungent smell, strong or hot odor which helps in antifeedant, repellent and insecticidal properties. Use of chemical insecticide completely checks the insect growth. Beside this, use of insecticide in repeated manner creates insurgence of pest, increment of resistance in pest over insecticide and also has hazardous effect to environment, human and even animal due to its residual effects. Apart from this, botanicals are in general more compatible with the environment, human and even animal due to its residual effects. Apart from this, botanicals are in general more compatible with the environmental components than the synthetic insecticides are they are easily degradable by heat, light, micro- organisms and water and don’t possesses any residual effect against nature. In fact, they are safe to human and animals. There is no any report of pest resurgence due to the application of botanical pesticides. Regarding the above situation, the present situation, the present research with the following objectives:

Chemical insecticides still remain the key tool for the control of this pest. Farmers spray insecticides in their fields indiscriminately. So, it causes phytotoxicity, resistance of the pest, destruction of beneficial organism, disruption of agro- ecosystem, human health hazard and environmental pollution (McIntyre et al., 1989). So there is need to use less hazardous, environmentally cheap insecticides with due precautions which is essential for management.

Thus, adoption of ecofriendly pest management is highly important and more natural agricultural system will be the of the day. For alternative methods, it needs to control the insects to control the insect pests in an eco friendly manner by locally available botanicals and plant essential oil.

    Hello Kushal

This was a very interesting report about the alternatives of pesticides!
I could learn about some extra information about the disadvantages of using pesticides, and some possibilities of replacing it. I'm sure you will be a great environmental activists even after graduating from the school.

Keep up with the great works!
