The Sonali Bag (Golden Bag) is a cellulose-based biodegradable bioplastic option in contrast to plastic bags, especially polythene bags, created by Mubarak Ahmad Khan, a researcher of Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission. The cellulose utilized in Sonali Bags is removed from jute, a significant vegetable fiber crop developed across the globe. The bag closely resembles plastic as well as compostable and totally biodegradable. Mubarak Ahmad Khan concocted the bag from jute in 2017 which isn't just eco-accommodating yet additionally reasonable in cost. The new jute-made bag, which is as helpful as polybag, should have an immense potential for effectively finishing the utilization of polythene in our nation and save our current circumstance.

Polythene bags were restricted in Bangladesh in 2002 due to natural concern. The enactment added catalyst to the innovative work of normal fiber composite (NFC) material as an option in contrast to polythene. Mubarak Ahmad Khan built up a scope of NFC material in a decades-in length exertion. In this manner, in 2018, Bangladesh Jute Mills Corporation (BJMC) began the business creation of Sonali Bag utilizing a Jute-based NFC.

It isn't just the law authorization organizations who are at fault for the developing business sector of polythene or plastic bags in the nation. The climate service has additionally neglected to keep its political responsibility in such manner.

“Although the contract to produce the bags has been signed, it will take about six to nine months to start the operation as the necessary machineries will have to be imported from the United Kingdom,” Dr Mubarak Ahmad Khan, a scientific advisor of BJMC who invented Sonali Bag from jute cellulose, said.

“They are now producing the polymer using a semi-automatic machine but the jute polymer-made Sonali Bags will be become available to all once we begin commercial production using automatic machines.

Dr. Mubarak Ahmad Khan is former Chief Scientific Officer (CSO) and Director General of Atomic Energy Research Establishment, Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission. He is now working as Scientific Advisor of Bangladesh Jute Mills Corporation, Ministry of Jute and Textiles, Bangladesh. He has completed B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Chemistry and PhD. In Polymer and Radiation Chemistry. He is working in several promising areas of nanotechnology, material science, biodegradable polymers, biomedical science, applied science etc. His focus is to develop sustainable technologies for related to environment and human health.

    Hello Mahsinur!
    It's your SJ mentor.

    I hope you doing well.
Thank you for introducing environmentally friendly bag made of cellulose.
I think the decomposition will work well because it is made of vegetable material.
However, I wonder how cellulose can be procured during mass production.
Plant growth also consumes a lot of resources, so I hope you look closely at the amount of resource input.
I'm glad it's a good alternative to solving the plastic bag problem.
Research is under way to develop decomposable plastic materials, so why don't you take a look?
    Happy New year!

    Best regards,
    SJ mentor.

    Hello Mahsinur,
    this is your mentor WooJoo.

    Warm greetings from South Korea.
Thank you for sharing introducing us the Sonali Bag!
Currently, plastics are being replaced by various types of biodegradable bags,
and fortunately in most of the countries now the use of plastic bags for shopping are now banned.
But still, thousands of plastic bags are being sold and used,
so we need to keep studying and producing these eco-friendly ones for the sustainability.
Hopefully the Sonali bag can be produced and supplied more and more so that we can grow a green city.

    Happy New Year! :)
