[Ambassador report] Climate Jobs

Hey everyone,

One really cool climate job is environmental journalist. Climate journalists write articles that cover what is happening on our planet. Another interesting job is environmental scientist. I will be explaining both of these jobs from my perspective as someone who has had a little experience in both of these.

I have had the opportunity to write articles about the environment for the LA Times. Writing these articles definitely requires much more effort than it might seem. One of my articles was written during a writing internship at the Stanford Center for Ocean Solutions. It was about the dire need for ocean literacy in our world but more specifically in such an inland country like the USA. I conducted 3 interviews to gather reputable information and perspectives from esteemed marine biologists. It was an incredibly rewarding experience that combined both my loves for writing and for earth.

I have also worked as a youth environmental scientist for nearly 8 years. My projects have included a 2-year study on phycology and its potential in bioremediating pollution, a study on soil respiration and its impact on global CO2 fluxes, a project on greywater's impact on various houseplants, and 2 more studies on lettuce seed germination and aquatic macroinvertebrate health's changes due to water salinity fluctuations. My research has mainly focused on water pollution and air pollution, so I have been able to dive into uncovering solutions based on remediation.

From what I have learned, I would recommend both of these paths to all. I have not a lot of experience working in more professional setting, but I am excited to venture into these fields as a viable future career plan.

    Hello Shreya!
    It's your SJ mentor.

I hope you are doing well.
Thank you for introducing environmental journalists and scientists that you experienced.
It seems that environmental experts and scientists are often asked to contribute their writings.
It is interesting that you have participated in a variety of projects while working as a youth environmental scientist.
If I have a chance later, I think it would be good to write an article about the project you carried out.
I think other Ambassadors will be stimulated by your experience and serve as a good example.
Hope things are fine with you.
    Keep writing!

    Best regards,
    SJ mentor.
