[Ambassador report] Lake Titicaca

What is happening to Lake Titicaca in Peru?
Peru's Titicaca, considered one of the ten most important lakes on the planet, is exposed to waste from communities and mining activity. This accelerates phenomena such as eutrophication, which alters the life of the flora and fauna and endangers the health of the communities living in and near the lake.

To prevent phenomena such as this, the Peruvian government decreed that from now on Lake Titicaca will have a permanent observatory in Lago Menor, one of the most fragile areas of this ecosystem. It is a fixed platform that will monitor and warn about chemical contamination, sediment accumulation, and degradation from the entry of thousands of liters of wastewater into the lake.

In addition, to ensure the success of this platform, a network of specialists from the Universidad Mayor de San Andrés and the Bolivian Ministry of Environment and Water, as well as from the National Meteorology and Hydrology Service of Peru, will be trained.

It should be noted that this observatory is one of the pilot projects being implemented by the governments of Peru and Bolivia as part of the Integrated Water Resources Management initiative in the Titicaca-Desaguadero-Poopó-Salar de Coipasa system, with technical support from the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and financing from the Global Environment Facility (GEF).

Here is my little web page where I talk more about this topic. I hope you like it! ( https://arcg.is/14em5G ).

    Hello Maria,
    this is your mentor Joon.

Such issues are hard to be handled individually, and needs government's
attention. Without it, it is inevitable for nature to be polluted. If not possible,
government or legislative part of the country should set restrictions on
companies' waste emission or else it would be irreversible. Recent days,
ESG governance is gaining its popularity. Companies try to reduce the
effects to environment on their own will, but we cannot ensure them and
there should be means to control them.

Thank you for the article and let's keep up.
