Yes as plastic bags take 20-1000 years to get decompose into the soil and we should reuse jute or cloth bags to carry our things!!!

Well, there are many good substitutes for plastic bags.
Paper bag, eco-bags.
What needed is our attitude as Aaditya said.

Banning Plastic bags will not help as much as changing our attitude will!
