biological concentration

Pesticide use shrinks bird population and kills birds by making the eggshell too thin and fragile. Furthermore spiders also die from eating preys contaminated with pesticides.

1. what is biological concentration?
Pesticides or heavy metals, through intake, do not get digested or removed but build up in our body. Biological concentration refers to the trend the higher the status in food pyramid, the higher the concentration of pesticides in the system. Since human is an omnivorous animal that can eat every animal on food chain, it has very high exposure to the risks posed by pesticide.

2. what causes biological concentration?
It results from water or soil seeped with the heavy metals or non-biodegradable pesticides residue in sewage, leachate, pesticides sprayed on crops, contaminated water from abandoned mine, industrial waste, and all sorts of wastes. Since synthetic chemical compounds like PCB, DDT and BHC are especially non-biodegradable, they accumulate in the food we eat posing great health threat.

3. health threat by pollutants
mercury:osteomalacia, acute pain in entire body | DDT:mainly contained in animal fatty tissue, it destroys fatty tissue and disrupts calcium absorption | lead:anemia, defective vision, nausea, diarrhea, dysuria | ABS:non water-soluble so it for ms a layer making aquatic creatures ifficult to breath | chrome:anemia, mental disorder | zinc:skin trouble, hair loss, nausea | cadmium:nephrolith, lung cancer | PCB:nausea, weight loss, yellow fever, abdominal pain.

information to know | what is minamata desease?
In 1953, some residents of Minamata prefecture in Japan succumbed to serious bout of illness. They had difficulty in walking and experienced paralysis of hand and feet, and weakening of language skills and vision. What was causing these ailments? It turned out what made them seriously ill was seafood poisoned with mercury. And this mercury was contained in the wastewater generated from nitrogen fertilizer plant in Minamata prefecture.

what is itai itai disease?
Cadmium produced from wastewater of lead and zinc refining process is introduced and reside in water, fish, agricultural produce we daily consume. Those who had eaten these contaminated food experienced difficulties in walking and atrophy of bones, and it has identified in 1968 that cadmium is the culprit of these terrifying symptoms.

4. how to minimize harm from pollutants?
¿Refrain from using biological concentration inducing product
¿Develop biodegradable pesticide
¿Strictly separate garbage

Biological concentration is very important in all creatures - from tiny plancton to domesticated animals. Pesticide components are in all of them and end up in food chains.

This is really bad because these things build up in our bodies and they are not removed or digested. They will have a large negative impact on us.

There are many biodegradable ingredients we could use such as orange, lemon, mint, cigarette, pine oil...These materials are known to have chemical properties that repel insects

    That's very horrible.
From this article, my question is what kinds of biodegradable pesticide which we can develop?
