Promoting Local Shopping to Uplift Fragile Communities

by Balkrishna Dahal | 09-11-2019 00:27 recommendations 0

It is global truth that climate has been changing and its impacts are crucial in mountainous countries like Nepal. Our ecosystem depend upon permanent snowcapped mountains and swift flowing rivers from them. The rivers have been maintaining both wildlife and human downstream. These rivers feed plains and valleys, for agricultural water requirement and other forests.

Due to the climate change, our fragile ecosystem is being affected with evident effects on livelihood of communities. It is utmost necessary to strengthen peoples capacity to help them deal with changing environment and their effects on their food production systems. The capacity building of local people is very important for helping them to combat with changing climate. There are multiple adaptation and mitigation measures that can be adopted by rural people but it is sad reality in our context that purchasing capacity of our people is very low that these adaptation and mitigation measures cannot be applied.

We have been working to promote local shopping to help people to raise their income from the resources available to them. On the other hand, it promotes organic products among consumers as they can achieve improved health and lower purchasing price.
