[Noida, India] September 14, 2012 - Samsung Engineering India (SEI) teamed up with Eco-generation, Samsung Engineering?s global environmental education program for children and youth, to launch its first India environmental awareness program at the OM Foundation School on Friday and Saturday. During the two-day event, students of OM Foundation School were given lessons on the environment through special lectures by SEI?s key engineers. The class was designed to give children a fun and personal look at the conservation of the environment, while educating them about how their actions could make a positive impact. It also gave the students an opportunity to ask about the plant engineering industry and career opportunities as an engineer in this field. On the second day, students from grades four through six were asked to express their awareness on environmental issues through a drawing, while grades seven through nine reflected on these issues through an essay. Five winners from both of the drawing and essay competitions and were honored in a special awards ceremony and received school supplies such as backpacks, drawing sets and environmental books. At the awards ceremony, SEI Managing Director Mr. Hyoman Im commented, ?Samsung Engineering India is hopeful that the Eco-generation environmental program will play a positive role in the lives of the children at OM Foundation School, by offering environmental awareness to the young generation that will pay dividends to the future of India.? Krishnendu Sengupta, the chief program officer of OM Foundation said, ?The OM Foundation always believes in imparting values-based education. The environmental education program with Samsung Engineering India and Eco-Generation will help them understand the importance of the environment and the related career opportunities in the environmental industry which will play a crucial role in the holistic grooming of the students. The program is especially valuable to our students who mostly are underprivileged, where exposure to such issues and knowledge is very limited.? Samsung Engineering and Eco-generation plans to host such environmental programs annually in India and broaden its reach by bringing the program to other regions, such as Latin America and the Middle East. SEI has also increased its local corporate social responsibilities activities through various partnerships in the Noida community over the past year. From donating blood, planting saplings and providing clothing and educational material to the OM Foundation, Samsung Engineering pledges to continue its efforts to support the local community. |
