Resource depletion

by Anishka Jha | 18-02-2018 03:22

Resources are depleted when it is being used faster than it can replenish itself. This means that consumption is always more than production. As our culture advances and our species invented many things that will make our lives easier, our demand for raw materials increased by leaps and bounds. We get these resources from the other. The problem is, we?re using too much and without care. Our planet just can?t keep up with our ever increasing demands.

What causes the depletion of our natural resources?

Overpopulation - With 7 billion people on the planet, the demand on Earth?s resources continue to increase.

Deforestation and the destruction of ecosystems leads to the loss of biodiversity.

Erosion - constructive and destructive waves at the shore destroy the coastline and eventually end up ruining natural resources like a beach/nature around it.

Pollution and contamination of resources

Overconsumption and waste - This is the excessive and unnecessary use of resources.

How can we help stop our natural resources from running out?

To help solve this issue of resource depletion, countries can come together and create an agreement of using a limited amount of resources. They can also try switching to more healthy options. Many countries are now developing sources of renewable and sustainable energy such as solar, wind and hydro power. These are natural resources and are clean sources of energy. They will not pollute the environment.

This way the environment is not put at risk and resources are also not getting used up so soon.
