Eco-Conservation among youth

by Rohan Kapur | 15-02-2018 19:24

Catch them young, an old proverb says. Considering the Eco-Conservation habits to be inculcated among children & youth, this is absolutely true. The young Gen presently are very responsible & active in all environmental fields. They have inherited a huge backlog & a bleak Eco-Future. Most of our natural resources are on the brink, Earth is bleeding, Environment is degrading. This is the time for the youth action. We have initiated the proceedings. Now, the time is to press accelerator & take this fight to the next higher level.

In this respect, a Beyond Cop21 Symposium, was organized in collaboration with target4 Green organization in Ajman Academy school. Beyond COP21 Symposium, launched in Dubai in January 2016, is a youth and school mobilisation platform raising awareness and action from students aged 10-18 years and teachers around sustainable development issues, with the support of Eco-Schools Global, Roots & Shoots (Jane Goodall's conservation organization) and 350.org. This time the students were trained about the importance of preserving the environment, recycling plastic and water, as well as food waste.

Many noted speakers were invited to update over 100 pupils from six UAE schools about the symposium. They urged the students to be close to nature as UAE offers natural habitat to many animals & marine alike. They were told about Dubai?s tryst with sustainability and recycling. Solar power was another area where they were lectured. Food waste in the UAE is rampant. There is urgent need for minimizing the same and to recycle the inevitable excess food as well.

I wish to congratulate the organizers for holding such an important workshop for students. UAE is in the forefront in spreading Eco-Awareness & we are proud to be residents & participants in such a vibrant & ethically green country.
