Since our family has gone into power generation through the renewable resource of the sun, I've seen how engineers play a major part in protecting the environment. Solar farms provide us with clean energy that is the exact opposite of energy derived from coal or fossil fuels.  In most countries, renewable energy like solar power is a part of the generation mix now required by governments from electric cooperatives or distribution utilities.

To build a solar farm, one requires many types of engineers, like electrical engineers.  I have a friend who is an electrical engineer and he monitors the power generated by his company that goes into the national grid.  He also mamages the ramping up during sunrise when the farm starts to generate power for the day.  He also checks on the inverters and other equipment in the solar farm. He is also incharge of monitoring the SCADA communication system. His understanding of electric circuits, wiring and other systems makes him an important member of the solar team.

In the solar company it is also important to have mechanical engineers they work on developing and manufacturing solar panels, machines, engines and other equipment.  They also install or supervise the installation of the solar panels and manage the maintenance of the whole system. My friend who is a mechanical engineer spends a lot of time walking and driving around the solar farm (about 25 hectares) in order to ensure that all the parts are working well.

Nowadays there are also very specialized solar engineers. Although they start of as an electrical or other traditional engineer, he or she goes into the very specific study of designing and implementing solar energy projects. They can be hired to manage anything rooftop solar installations on homes/buildings or the large solar farms that service whole towns and cities.

Engineers are definitely important members of a solar team whether they generate power for personal consumption or for the national grid. Their understanding of how solar works will ensure safe and maximum generation of renewable energy.
