Brilliant Green Robots

by Carlos Montemayor | 16-02-2018 23:36

Hello from the Philippines once more! Today, I write to you to tell you about three robots that captured my attention while researching online. Not only are they useful and convenient,  but the actions that they are capable of are also helpful to the environment! Without further ado, here they are.

The first one I'd like to show you is called EcoBot. What does it do? Well, this particular robot design is mostly used in garden settings, where it can catch slugs and flies. It kills these pests and uses their corpses' decomposing and fermenting to produce biogas, which indeeds becomes energy stored in a fuel cell. The EcoBot is also able to use the energy it produces into powering itself for more prey-hunting trips. The team behind the EcoBot is currently designing a version that can be deployed into bodies of water to take on creatures like plankton.

The second one that perked my interest was the Roboctopus. As suggested by its name, this robot is a robotic octopus. It has octopi-like tentacles, and has an octopus' characteristics of being very flexible and can fit through small areas. The main purpose of this robot octopus is to scan the ocean or whatever body of water it is placed in for signs of climate change that can not be detected by large-scale instruments. This is a very ingenious idea that is truly useful in our planet's current state.

The third and final robot I'll be telling you about are the robots that are currently used in some German sewage plants. Their role is to move through piles of human sewage from the cities, and then quickly dry these moist and wet lumps of waste that we produce. They help prevent waste from building up in the sewage plants they call home. Furthermore, they are solar powered, making them quite efficient in doing their work because they are environmental-friendly.

These robots are all very amazing, showing how a little human ingenuity and creativity can go a long way in harnessing technology to ways that are useful to our planet. I truly hope that all of you learned a lot in my article, and hopefully, some of us go on to do things like these, or even more than these!
