The greatest environmental challenge is Africa is waste management. Poor waste management system by public as well as some private enterprises is impacting the health of our environment leading to sanitation problem, health problem, climate change and many other issues. Due to these problems, there is no need to wait for government not the private sector; there is no need to attend environmental sciences school before doing something. This is what a young African leader; passionate about development is showing us through his innovative work. Who is that bright mind? What is he doing? How does he do it

Makafui Awuku aka Mckingtorch the poet is from Ghana, a country located in West Africa. He has performed on many development themes on prestigious stages, like at the Energy Award, the Ghana Summit Award and at the closing ceremony of the YALI ( Yali African Leaders Initiative), where he took courses in Civic Leadership. He is a also TEDx Talk Speaker and an author. Mckingtorch the poet, as his name describes, beyond his beautiful words to depict, engage, inspire and show ways to environmental sustainability, is creating sustainability through actions. He does not want anything to be lost; he does not want to see waste. He decides then to recycle all wastes mainly the solid waste for people to reuse.

With his innovative idea of recycling solid wastes, Mckingtorch has focused on turning used bottles into bins, laundry baskets, flower pots, and police barricades and many more. In fact, The young leader and his team go from house to house, office to office and even in the streets to pick up used bottles. They use these bottles to make bins. In his own words ?? the project seeks to create products from the bottles in the raw forms in which they are. This is a revolution to provoke every African to keep the bottles out of the environment??. For him, the bottle mainly plastic bottles which are solid waste do not need to be left in the environment; they should serve for something else after their initial use. When asked his goal through this project, he answers simply ?? the goal is to keep millions of bottles from the environment at the end of 2018 and do more over the next few years??.  His project greatly contributes to manage solid wastes and keep the environment out of degradation. His endeavor helps in creating not only a resilient environment; but also a resilient and clean city.

His recycling project which is not limited to his country Ghana alone, will be spread to other African countries and even to the world. To do so, his project is registered a social enterprise and he aims to set up factories in Ghana and other African countries. Mckingtorch possesses a real revolutionary project that will greatly impact endeavors in fighting against environmental issues in Africa as well as in the world. He is showing the way to manage solid waste through recycling. The following are the links to his website and social media where you can learn more about his bottles recycling project.
