Car Free Day, Dubai 04-Feb-18

by Rohan Kapur | 04-02-2018 21:53

Today 04-Feb-18, Dubai is celebrating its Ninth year of the Car Free Day. On this day Dubai Municipality organizes a drive where all are encouraged to keep their cars at home and to use public transport like Metro or Bus or cycle to go to their office. Over the years, many companies in public & private sector have come forward and also reciprocated to join this drive. Many have arranged buses to pick their staff from homes. Apart from Dubai, many other Emirates have joined in this drive. This year Emirates of Al Ain, Ajman and Ras Al Khaimah have joined in this drive.

This initiative has become very popular & today my father also took the company transport to his work and has left his car at home. I am always taking school bus without fail. Therefore, my family has always contributed to this environmental cause. UAE has registered a reduction of carbon footprint by about 174 tonnes by this annual initiative.

This is another concrete step in the right direction by the UAE government to showcase their undeterred commitment towards curbing climate change effects. The Government is pro-active and always in the forefront in using novel methods to care for the environment and taking Green initiatives.

Through the powerful medium of Tunza Eco-generation, I strongly urge all fellow ambassadors to organize & participate in similar initiatives where Environmental conservation may be achieved. No initiative is small and no contribution is meager. The journey of 1000 miles begin with one step.
