Bag IT - Life endangering Waste

by Lohita Swaminathan | 03-02-2018 01:39

According to statistics, we use around 1 trillion plastic bags every year that we mindlessly throw away. From plastic bottles and plastic shopping bags, to plastic toys and plastic accessories, it is everywhere. But where does it all go once it's discarded? What happens to it after? And how does it affect us?

In support of World Environment Day on June 5th, Locomotion screened 'Bag It' – an insightful documentary that follows everyman Jeb Berrier, as he navigates through our plastic world.

Not a radical environmentalist as such, Jeb is just your regular guy who one day decides to take a closer look at our relationship with the harmful mass-produced invention.

Travelling from city to city, he discovers that virtually everything in modern society is made with plastic or contains potentially harmful chemical additives used in the plastic-making process. Seeing how it adversely affects our environment, marine life and human health, Jeb finds different ways to dealing with the problem.

Bag It is a documentary with one simple message: "Our disposable society needs to change".

I call the plastics bags a serious threat to human and animal lives. Apart from being non perishable and causing serious distress to the neighborhood waste management, unless the plastic used is recycled; the plastics bags can lead to suffocation and serious injury to animals if they consume them . Also the plastic bags will be life threatening in the hands of very young children if the families do not store them carefully, away from their reach.
