Waste to Energy

by Rohan Kapur | 26-11-2017 13:40

We generate waste all the time. Most of it ultimately sits in the landfills for years all together causing ecological hazards. Many countries have targeted to reduce the waste to landfills & United Arab Emirates is pioneer in this direction. Much of the waste is converted into energy. All the sewerage water is recycled and used in watering the vast landscaping done in UAE. There is so much greenery in the UAE that you will not believe that you are in the desert and all this green landscaping is watered using recycled sewerage water. This is incredible. Further that are huge recycling plants in Sharjah that uses paper, cardboard, plastic cans, rubber tyres, construction waste and what not. These recycling facilities are world class and use the latest technology.

In such a scenario, since past many years I am actively involved in motivating, encouraging and involving community into collecting the recyclable waste. Each week they all submit the same at my house and local recycling companies like Beea?h, EEG etc. collects the same from my house. Since I can collect a substantial amount each week regularly they find it convenient to come & collect from one focal point.

Many students have been encouraged by this initiative & they have started collecting recyclables from their own sources. I have often helped them to submit the same to the proper source. Recycled material must find its way to the recycling plant else its not useful to collect the same.

As far as my initiative is concerned, I maintain a log of all the recyclables submitted by each individual & regularly I announce on social media the winners in different categories. They are also recognized by the local recycling companies by way of certificates & goody bags. This comes as an encouragement to them, fosters a healthy competition among peers and above all it?s a great service to the mother earth.

I have often used this forum to appeal to all 59 fellow ambassadors at this amazing & unique international forum to organize such drives & initiatives in their respective regions. No contribution is small & today is the day for a new beginning.

So, my eco-warriors! Come on, guys. Start converting waste into energy by Reducing, Reusing & Recycling.
