IT-TECHNOLOGIES, INTERNET of THINGS and TAIWAN ECOSYSTEM (YouBike).

by Elizaveta Zaretskaya | 08-11-2017 16:59

Hi everyone from Taiwan! I would like to draw your attention to my fifth report on IT-TECHNOLOGIES, INTERNET of THINGS and TAIWAN ECOSYSTEM (YouBike).

We are fortunate to live in this amazing time, when the digital technology has changed the way we communicate with our friends, travel, work and live. Nowadays, it has become more relevant to use new technologies and methods, which facilitate the ability to independently produce new knowledge and collect necessary information. All this includes the search for some new forms and methods of working and living. And what is new and innovative in working and living in the 21st century? Of course, it is an opportunity that Internet, IT-technologies, innovative products, services and solutions provide.

In the hope of elevating life and culture in the city and in response to a global trend of energy conservation and carbon mitigation, the Taipei City Government, in collaboration with INTEL (an American multinational corporation and technology company), Giant Taiwan, and the Taiwan ecosystem initiated the Taipei Bike Sharing System Service Plan, also known as YouBike (a system of smart city bicycle). They tried to create solutions for business transformation and to improve living standards using The Internet of things. Their mission is enabling an intelligent planet with Automation and Embedded Computing products and solutions that empower the development of smarter working and living. YouBike uses an electronic unmanned automated management system to provide A Leases and B Returns bike rental service.

Currently YouBike is the most popular public bike in Taiwan. At the moment in Taiwan more than 700 stations for bikes are set. With the assistance of Intel, Advantech and Microprogram YouBike plans to implement the system in other cities. People using Taipei's bicycle rental service will be charged a small fee for the first half an hour. The YouBike system, which was fully implemented in 2012, allows free rides for the first 30 minutes, after which the users are charged NT$10 (US$0.31) per half-hour for the next three and a half hours, NT$20 (US$0.63) per half-hour for the next four hours, and NT$40 (US$1.27) per half-hour after that. The Taipei government reported that as of October 2017, total ridership since the implementation of the YouBike system has surpassed/ reached 90 million.

At the end, I want to add that this system is inexpensive and very easy to use and to pay (by IC Credit card and EasyCard). And most importantly, this system makes our country cleaner and more environmentally friendly (an international environmentally friendly green city). This system also can reduce the use of motor vehicles and improve air quality and traffic, and this can make Taipei the first exemplar of the city bike commuting.

I delivered an oral presentation on IT-TECHNOLOGIES, INTERNET of THINGS and TAIWAN ECOSYSTEM at Tamkang University (Taiwan). I presented it to 2rd year students. The presentation took place at the Russian department of Tamkang University on November 7th, 2017. This presentation was in Russian because students also need practice in Russian The dean of the Russian department gave me a certificate that I held a presentation for students.
