My School Club, Earth Kids TRIS

by Rock Lee | 31-10-2017 22:38

Hello Tunza Eco Generation members! I'd like to share about my school club 'Earth Kid TRIS'. Before I start, let me introduce myself. My name is Rock Lee, an youth-environmentalist from South Korea. I'm 14 years old and I love drawing zentangles and watching movies and interested in all kinds of world-wide problems. I got to know about this problem 'global warming' when I was 10 years old, and since then I've been doing lots of activities to tell people about this serious problem. I draw a comic called ?Earth Kids: Riki and Piki' to let kids pay attention about climate change, also I found a student-environmental organization called 'Earth Kids'. There are over hundreds of members and we clean the parks nearby every weekend and we publish an online-newspaper called ?Earth Kids Times?.

I was working with my activities in South Korea but for some personal reason, I came to Thailand with my family last February and I am living here now. When I first came here, I had to fit in my new life, international school, lots of stuff. After a few months, I thought that I should keep doing my activities here in Thailand too. If you've read my last article 'A Student-Group 'Earth Kids Thailand' and their First Project 'High Five for World Peace'', you might know about another group I founded in Thailand 'Earth Kids Thailand' with my Thai friends including Thanyawee who participated in 2017 Junior Eco-Engineering Program. Here's the link for the article.

Right after founding 'Earth Kids Thailand', I tried to talk about world-wide issues with my school friends, and I was very amazed. Back in South Korea, most of my old school friends wouldn't be that interested in world-wide problems such as refugees, gender equality, poverty and so on. However in my international school here, there are lots of students from all kinds of countries who have diverse cultures, so it was a very valuable time for us to talk and debate.

Afterwards, I felt that I should found a school club and recruit all of those friends who were interested. This month 18th, I recruited over 10 students and my science teacher who was very interested about my idea. Every week Monday we decide a topic to talk about. Until Wednesday, our club members prepare their opinion about this topic we decided with materials such as reports, presentations, photos from the internet. we have an after school time to talk about a topic each week For example, for this week we talk about refugees with materials such as articles from the internet or a presentation. Since our club just started, we have come up with lots of ideas how should we tell our school students about world-wide problems. Earth Kid TRIS just started!
