Philippine Government's Department of Energy Making Moves To Promote Use Of Renewable Energy

by Carlos Montemayor | 29-10-2017 01:36

The Department of Energy teamed up with several other local government units recently to promote the use of renewable energy, as well as to make moves to reduce the effects of climate change in the country. In some government buildings, steps are being taken to conserve electricity consumption. Air conditioning units in offices are planned on being operated only from 9 AM to 4 PM on working day. Temperature will be set only to 25 degrees Celsius to lessen the energy consumption caused by the strain of air-con units when temperatures are set to be very low or cold. Aside from this, the increased use of LED lights over traditional incandescent or fluorescent bulbs is being promoted and implemented in government buildings all over the country. This type of light source is more energy efficient than its older predecessors, and thus would help a lot in reducing the electricity consumption for lighting.

In the Philippines' Visayas region, the use of renewable energy sources for producing electricity is common, with many wind and geothermal farms already established. Government officials said that it is planning to take more steps to promote nationwide use of these renewable energy sources which are more sustainable and more efficient and beneficial for society as a whole. Hopefully, this moves towards green energy in the Philippines will be consistent and will eventually benefit the country in the near future.
