Aquaponics (Proposal)

by Elizaveta Zaretskaya | 22-10-2017 18:42

Hi everyone! My name is Lisa Zaretskaya and I live and study in Taiwan (as I told before). I would like to draw your attention to my fourth report. My fourth work is the presentation at my school in order to promote AQUAPONICS. The oral presentation took place in my school on October 13th, 2017. As usual it was very difficult to find free time in our school because all the time we have lessons and exams. Poor children are always busy.

At first, I told them what is AQUAPONICS. This system is able to grow most vegetables and some fruit. At the outset we will be growing easier veggies and herbs (tomatoes, peppers, green leafy, strawberries, beans, etc.) then moving onto a larger variety with more advanced systems and a variety of locations in Taiwan.

I think this system can help in school and kindergarten education. For example, kindergarten: children can discover new vegetables and fruit. Other areas of focus (climate, fish and environment, basic scheduling and maintenance), elementary: children can discover vegetables and fruit grow more efficiently. Other areas of focus (cause & effects, nutrients, plant and fish needs, scheduling, maintenance, harvesting, plus experimentation, designs, modifications).

So, what is Aquaponics?

Outline:

Growing fruit and vegetables using fish and other water-borne animals

Design, build and operate

Produce locally

Equipment and Supplies sourced locally

Opportunity for sponsorship/donations (lower cost).

System:

Combine fish, produce and equipment to build and operate a farming system

Fish or waterborne animals create pool of healthy fertilizer used for plant nutrition

Plant roots access water via pump from pool for nutritional purpose

Plant roots filter ?soiled? water for eventual reintegration with pool

Vegetables and Fruit harvested for consumption

Fish and waterborne animals grown to maturity for consumption.

Monitoring: Daily and/or Weekly

Water, Equipment.

Later I delivered an oral presentation on AQUAPONICS at Tamkang University (Taiwan). I presented it to 3rd year students. The presentation took place at the Russian department of Tamkang University on October 17th, 2017. Many students have younger brothers and sisters, so I think they can speak to them about aquaponics. The dean of the Russian department gave me a certificate that I held a presentation for students.

Today I went to Taichung to visit First workshop on everything 'Urban Farming' (Oct. 22nd, 2017). Topics to be presented and discussed: Urban Farming - An Introduction, Strengths, Weaknesses and the Way Forward, Traditional Farming, Hydroponic Growing Systems, Aquaponic Growing Systems. It was interesting, because I collect materials for the next report.

Thank you for your attention.
