In 13^th of October 2017, the world celebrated International Disaster Reduction Day. Thus, in this report I would like to write about how Indonesia suffer disasters and what kind of actions that Indonesia has taken to overcome the issue. The specific region in Indonesia that I want to talk about is the Island of Java, which is the most populated and the most developed island in Indonesia.

In the past few years, Java always deal with the problem of floods that widespread all over the island during the rainy season. Jakarta, the capital city of Indonesia, is the most popular place that suffer floods annually, due to the overpopulation and poor drainage system in the city. However, earlier this year, Bandung, the capital city of West Java Province surprisingly suffers the heaviest flood it has ever experienced in the past few years.

Bandung is a mountainous area where the whole city is surrounded by the mountain. Bandung also sometimes illustrated as a 'bowl' city, where, its surrounding areas are highlands and its city centre is considered as lowland. At the lowest part of Bandung called Baleendah, floods always come after the heavy rain, and it causes a heavy congested traffic and increases some diseases in the area.

Currently, the authorities of Bandung have tried to find several solutions to solve the issue. For the long-term period, the Government of Bandung in affiliation with the West Java Province authorities are preparing to build a retention basin, which is an artificial lake, that will be used to manage water runoff during heavy rain and prevent flooding. For the short-term period, the Government of Bandung also prepares several road sweeper machines that had been operated in the past few months to reduce the number of trash on the road so that it won't block the drainage system (especially, the drainage hole) in the city.

Moreover, when I was still studying in one of the public high school in Bandung, in every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, the students must help the school to clean the school's surrounding area for 30 minutes before the class start. The students are not only as easy as picking trash using their hands in the school's garden, but also sweep the road from the fallen leaves and take some trash (especially fallen leaves) that were dumped on the drainage system in front of the school using the equipment prepared by the school. The program was considered success because it was not only implemented by my school but also with the majority of public schools in the city, from elementary school to high school. Besides cleaning the surrounding environment, the program is also a good idea to raise awareness among youths nowadays about the importance of cleaning the surrounding environment to sustain our well-being.

All in all, I hope this report might give you guys some brief information about what kind of disaster issues that Indonesia, in this case is Bandung, has faced and how the Bandung people solved the issue.
