FAREWELL ADDRESS

by Yvonne Wabai | 31-08-2017 23:31

Hello, fellow eco-warriors! Firstly,  I would like to congratulate the 19th ambassadors. To the newly appointed ambassadors, welcome, and to the ones whose terms have been extended, keep up the good work.

Secondly, I would like to announce that I am stepping down as Kenya's ambassador. I am honored to have worked with you all on our goal towards a better environment for us and for those that come after us. It was a pleasure serving in the 17th and 18th terms as ambassador and I enjoyed interacting with fellow ambassadors and fellow Tunza members as well. As ambassador, I helped shed a light on the environmental issues that Kenya faces and I also helped come up with solutions to the problems. Perhaps the most momentous occasion in my servitude was when the government decided to take action on plastic pollution, beginning with a ban on plastic bags, and the bag took effect this past Monday and all is going well so far. I hope the newly incoming ambassador to Kenya will take up where we left off and will keep up the good job.

Lastly, I look forward to seeing what comes next to reading the reports and to seeing the environmental efforts in my country as well as in other countries. I look forward to continuing to work alongside all of you, ambassadors and non-ambassadors alike. I leave you with the words of Wendell Berry, "We have lived our lives by the assumption that what was good for us would be good for the world. We have been wrong. We must change our lives so that it will be possible to live by the contrary assumption, that what is good for the world will be good for us. And that requires that we make the effort to know the world and learn what is good for it."
