Respect for the environment is one of Guides' laws. Thus, as Guides we are committed to promoting the value of the environment. From this point, an environmental education program has been established since November 2016 during a national formation of the youth committee of Fanilon'I Madagasikara. This program aims to raise young members' awareness of the values of water, air, soil and forest. For program impact to be effective, we use peer-based learning, experiential learning that encourages a participatory response from young members. Young people blossom and feel responsible for the improvement and preservation of the environment, especially when asked to describe their design on an ideal environment and the evolution of this ideal environment through Degradation under the human action. They are therefore convinced that this ideal environment must be established by anyway to ensure sustainable development. Then, the participants committed themselves to establishing environmental projects. Each member Guides in the units also benefited from this environmental education as those of my unit in Analamahitsy. In the first phase, guides aware of the importance of the environment committed themselves to putting a sorting system in the vicinity of our unit. Environmental education is therefore important especially for young people. This opens their minds to the environmental value and encourages them to take environmental responsibilities. |
