It is a sad story about the long term harms of what started as the Green Revolution in Punjab- the Bread Basket of India... the sorry consequences of GM seeds Chemical fertilisers & Pesticides and depletion of ground water. A development, a futuristic scientific initiative that seems to have gone horribly wrong, just because we failed to harness it wisely, because we did not know where and when to stop...

The worst part is that the hard working farmers , those who feed the nation, are at the receiving end. Government apathy has escalated the problem. Thousands of farmers have ended their lives in despair and debt. Many have given in to drug abuse.

It is time the Indian government takes drastic measures to improve the situation by evaluating the current agarian practices and suggesting suitable modifications. Further, there should be measures to provide financial assistance and education to farmers.
