Recycling in Argentinian schools

by | 12-06-2017 04:28

Argentinian schools, both private and public have taken different steps to ensure that young citizens learn to recycle.  At my school, for example there are different trash containers, one for plastic, one for paper and one for bio-waste.

But these aren?t the only measures that are being taken. There are different clubs that lead efforts to recycle and give uses to our trash.

In each class, we have a cardboard box for paper that is collected by club members once a month. In addition we have what we call the eco-brick. Taking an empty bottle of 1.5 liters, we clean them and afterwards fill them with plastic waste such as food wraps and other items. Every now and then we compress the waste. These ?bricks? are afterwards given to charities to use when they build homes for those in need. The bricks are covered in concrete and used to build houses.

Another thing, e.g. my school does is separate in a container bottle caps which we donate to a foundation for the children?s hospital in Buenos Aires.

Working together is the key to success and if each of us does their part we will be able to help make our planet a better place. We still have got a lot to do but the first steps have been taken.
