Pro-BIO Innovation for Paradigm Challenge

by Adam Zhou | 12-06-2017 13:43

The Paradigm Challenge is an annual innovation competition that inspires youth to use STEM skills to create change. This year?s theme is reducing waste and as a result, our team has modelled a bottle-like device called Pro-BIO (Bottle Integration for Organisms) that exemplifies conditions for fermentation to avoid waste.

Fermentation is a simple process used since 7000 BCE in China to naturally preserve and prolong the shelf life of various food items. Aside from reducing food spoilage, however, the fermented output also contains a type of bacteria called probiotics. The multitude of benefits include enhancing the immune system and digestion but also slightly more minor aspects such as healthier skin, weight loss, as well as increased energy.

People who practice fermentation remain limited due to the lack of access to materials needed and inadequate information regarding the process. Our solution aims to solve this by providing people with a practical fermentation bottle model providing high-quality results by being environmentally friendly (as every material used in the making has been recycled), ubiquitous, and simple to use in the household.

Recently, we have been selected as a finalist in the competition and and we would greatly appreciate it if you could vote for our project to make our idea a concrete initiative. All it takes is for you to visit the link below.
