Radioactive waste is the byproduct of nuclear power this waste is highly dangerous to many lives and the environment. The waste phases out in time however it needs strict captivity in order to prevent its spread till it phases out. The amount of time the waste should be contained will depend on the kind and isotopes of the waste. Ways to prevent nuclear waste from having effects on society are quite hard and complicated. However, the general way would be to contain the waste till it has phased out, or reduced in capacity. In addition to this many ways of disposal of nuclear waste were examined, some of which are: ? Above ground storage (not implemented) ? Disposal in outer space (not implemented) ? Deep borehole disposal (not implemented) ? Ocean disposal (implemented by the U.K., U.S., Russia, and several other countries) ? Disposal in ice sheets (rejected) ? Direct injection (implemented) |
